HANK TILBURY – SLEEPING BEAR AUGUST

The second audio release on Ambitention is an exquisite collection of soundscapes from Hank Tilbury inspired by his visits to the Sleeping Bear dunes in Michigan. In Hank’s words: “This music followed me for a long time, through many moves. The original source material was created with an electric guitar, an analog synthesizer, percussion and tape loops at the studios of WIAA-FM, Interlochen, Michigan. Years later, the tapes were re-sampled and played-with at Studio W in Nashville, Tennessee. Finally, years after that, the re-samplings were assembled, mixed and mastered in a little laptop computer at the International Repository for the Collective Unconscious, in Shawnee Mission, Kansas.”

JEFF SAMPSON / MYSTIFIED – ENCOUNTER AT LAZARETTO PRIME

The first audio release on Ambitention, a collaboration between Jeff Sampson (voices) and Mystified (flutes and trombone), is an esoteric voyage through a few stories involving meetings that didn’t necessarily have the results the participants hoped for.

I HAVE LEFT MY KEYS UNDER A RAKE

Now where is the time that’s somehow taken on the wind?
I never see it going by.
In the motion of the rituals chained to the days,
I’d rather turn my eyes.

I didn’t see the end.
I didn’t notice sand was slipping by.
The walk just carried on, moving through a haze of crowded boulevards.

Moon rivers – horse-drawn trollies – can’t complete the city life.
The storm is coming in.
Come here – hold my hand – guide for awhile.
Patience is wearing thin.

Where is the silence when?
Who knows it comes again?

I don’t understand what goes on here
when unknown things appear before my eyes.
Pardon me, would you mind standing over there?
You’re blocking what I didn’t realize.

UNTROUBLED BY THOUGHT

He can’t see where he’s goin’
and he doesn’t know where he’s been.
Doesn’t care that his head isn’t growing;
wouldn’t know he isn’t calling the shots.
Heard a wasted life is one not worth living;
doesn’t know why it pertains to him.
May have cared once, but that’s long been hidden
‘cuz his mind is untroubled by thought.

Does he think that he may have been hurtful?
Nope – why would it mean anything?
You might think he’s apt to be spiteful,
but don’t say it’s his fault, ‘cuz it’s not.
Crowds like to shout and point fingers
if someone’s actions are felt to be lacking.
But in him you won’t find a trace of anger
because his mind is untroubled by thought.

There’s no difference between contrition and full of sin;
he can’t fathom why someone would care.
If the fate of others should fall to him.
would he know what to do – probably not.

When his life just refuses to keep on living,
when his spirit turns around and there’s no one there,
there’ll be no caring in death about reliving
‘cuz like his life, it’s untroubled by thought.
